A design registration protects the outward appearance of an article and is a cost effective way of obtaining protection for products which, to the public, are attractive in appearance and ‘appeal to the eye’. Such an industrial design increases its marketability. A registered design will give the owner the exclusionary right to prevent others from copying his design and profiting by it. The maximum term for a registered design in Malaysia is 15 years.
