A Patent protects the inventive kernel of a process or product. The nature of an invention varies and is often a lengthy process of analysis, research and development. This is why the work needs to be fully protected not only to safeguard the inventor’s specific solution but against future developments and modifications by competitors. In return for a disclosure of the invention to the public, a patent provides an exclusionary right for a limited term. The duration of a patent is calculated as 20 years from the date of application.
